Mini-LED vs OLED: Which Is Better for You?
Both are premium display technologies, but they solve different problems.
OLED
Each pixel makes its own light and can turn fully off.
- Pros: perfect blacks, infinite contrast, no blooming, near-instant pixel response.
- Cons: lower sustained full-screen brightness; burn-in risk from static elements; price.
Mini-LED (LCD with many dimming zones)
A traditional LCD lit by thousands of tiny LEDs grouped into local-dimming zones.
- Pros: very high brightness (great for bright rooms and HDR highlights); no burn-in.
- Cons: blooming — halos around bright objects on black, because a zone lights more than the object. Slower than OLED.
See blooming for yourself
On a Mini-LED display, run the Blooming Test: a bright dot on black reveals the halo. More zones = smaller halo.
Choosing
- Dark-room movies & best contrast: OLED.
- Bright room, HDR brightness, static content (productivity, long hours): Mini-LED. Check blacks on either with the Black Screen.
